Arts and creativity for social change

Mission and vision

The aim of TFiN, or The Future is Now, is to be a forum, through workshops and events in all areas of the arts, where we can express our humanity and connection with the earth creatively. By awakening our inner capacity to create something new from scratch, we strengthen our sense of self-worth.

In workshops and events, in Sweden and abroad, TFiN creates a space in which we can express our innermost longings, thoughts, ideas and ideals. The workshops and events are often inspired by a certain person, concept or situation that spark feelings of courage and aspiration in us, thus setting a framework for our own longings and ideals.

TFiN uses the arts to empower its participants and encourages them to continue to express their ideals of the present moment, giving them a voice through which they can influence the future for themselves and the planet we live on.

Background

Through creativity and artistic expression, individually or in community with others, we are able to develop and express our Being and worldview and give meaning to our existence and the development of our humanity and the planet.

Artists often contribute to social debates, sometimes shedding light on discourses that counter existing power centres. Artistic expression and creativity are necessary for the development of vibrant cultures and functioning democratic societies.

Our rights to the freedom of expression and creativity are protected under articles 15 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) and 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), both of which Sweden have ratified.

More on this topic can be read in this report by the UN Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights.
